Additional Information — Video Content
Video Hosting Provider
Short-form video clips and other self-hosted educational videos on Jianying Chinese are stored and delivered to your device via Cloudflare R2 (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When your browser requests a video, technical request data such as your IP address, user-agent string, and the URL of the requested file are processed by Cloudflare for the sole purpose of delivering the file. Cloudflare does not receive your account email, name, or other directly identifying information from us in connection with video delivery. This processing is governed by Cloudflare’s standard Data Processing Addendum. Cloudflare may transfer some of this technical data outside the European Economic Area; such transfers are covered by the Standard Contractual Clauses incorporated into Cloudflare’s addendum.
Video and Learning Activity Logs
When you view videos (lessons, clips) or interact with learning activities on the Service, we record limited events in order to operate the Service. These include: a “video started” event when playback begins, periodic “progress” events while you are watching, and a “video completed” event when you finish a video. Each event records the video identifier, your account identifier, and a timestamp. We do not record the contents of what you watch beyond these events.
We use these logs to display your personal learning progress, calculate weekly and streak statistics, support reminders within the Jìyì flashcard system, and improve the Service. We do not sell or share these logs with third parties for advertising purposes. Logs are retained while your account is active and are deleted (or anonymised) when you delete your account, in line with the rights set out in the main policy above.

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your video and learning activity logs at any time by contacting us at privacy@jianyingchinese.com. The rights, lawful bases, retention rules, and complaint mechanisms set out in the main privacy policy above apply equally to the data described in this section.
Additional Information — Profile & Teacher Access
Profile Information You Provide
When you set up your profile, we ask you for some optional information to personalise your learning experience: your name and preferred display name, a profile photo, your nationality, your date of birth, the languages you speak, your current Chinese level, your reasons for learning, and your weekly learning goal. Providing this information is voluntary, and you can view, edit, or remove it at any time from your account Settings.
We process this information to personalise your lessons and learning roadmap. The lawful basis is the performance of our contract with you (providing a personalised learning service) and, where applicable, your consent, which you may withdraw at any time by editing or clearing these fields in Settings.
What Your Teacher Can See
So your teacher can prepare and tailor your lessons, they can view a limited part of your profile: your name and preferred display name, profile photo, the email address associated with your account, the languages you speak, your current Chinese level, your reasons for learning, and your weekly learning goal.
In line with the principle of data minimisation, your teacher does not see your date of birth or your nationality. These fields are used only to personalise your own experience and are not shared with teaching staff. Teacher access is read-only — teachers cannot change your profile information.
